Roberto arrived at Sampdoria in the summer of 1982, strongly wanted by president Paolo Mantovani who paid a sum outside the parameters for that time - two and a half billion old lire plus four players sold to Bologna.
Mancini scored 118 goals in 352 appearances for Sampdoria and played the 1991/92 Champions League final against giants Barcelona. In the magical Wembley Stadium, Samp fought up to extra time when they had surrender to Koeman's winning goal for the Catalans in the 112th minute. In Genoa Roberto won his first Scudetto under legendary Vujadin Boskov on the bench, the coach who more than anyone gave him freedom to express his infinite talent and innate fantasy on the field.
During his 15 years at Sampdoria he also contributed to the achievement of four Coppa Italia titles, one Supercoppa Italiana and one UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. His long adventure with Doria ended in 1997 with his move to Lazio.
